Summerset Wastewater Treatment Plant and Expansion

The expansion of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) involved the addition of new concrete treatment basins, along with upgraded process equipment, electrical systems, controls, and other necessary systems to support the expanded facility’s operations. A new greenhouse-style enclosure with an aluminum frame will be built around the newly installed treatment basins. Enhancements to solids handling will include the construction of new lined sludge storage lagoons. Site work will encompass grading, installation of new utilities, process interconnections, fencing, and improvements to the access roads. RCS Construction was challenged by the City of Summerset and HDR with finding over one million in value engineering ideas and deletions to make the project happen. A few key areas that RCS pursued were: eliminating the generator and foundation, eliminating Reed Beds and associated piping, and new liners, eliminating the replacement of existing blowers, eliminating work in the existing SBR building, and working with the follow subcontractors, suppliers, and HDR to find different solutions for controls, electrical HVAC, and Aqua-Aerobics.
