Yates Shaft Rehabilitation
The South Dakota Science and Technology Authority contracted R.C.S. Construction, Inc. to revamp the Yates Shaft, preparing it for scientists to conduct experiments 5,000 feet underground. The project involved the removal of all existing utilities within the mine shaft, followed by the installation of new, updated systems to support the upcoming scientific work. Additionally, the timber within the shaft was thoroughly cleaned, tested, and replaced as needed to ensure safety and structural integrity. This project employed around 20 experienced miners, many of whom had previously worked at Homestake Mines, bringing invaluable expertise to the project.
