National Guard Readiness Center
The South Dakota Army National Guard's new Aviation Readiness Center is a 58,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art facility strategically located next to the Guard’s Army Aviation Support Facility, which was exceeding its capacity. This new center supports over 150 soldiers from eight different units and includes training classrooms, administrative offices, equipment and supply storage, and a vehicle maintenance bay.
A standout feature of the project is its design and construction for LEED Silver certification, emphasizing energy efficiency. RCS served as the LEED manager, implementing sustainable systems such as solar tubes, solar wall panels, and geothermal well fields. The building was constructed with strong attention to safety and coordination, particularly with FAA and Airport personnel, as the facility is located within the airspace of the Rapid City Regional Airport.
Additionally, the building features blast-resistant construction with precast concrete, masonry, structural steel, and aluminum curtain wall assemblies. It is equipped with advanced systems, including automated temperature control monitoring, anti-terrorism and force protection measures, security fencing, and site lighting, ensuring both operational efficiency and high security for its users.
